Violence in Jerusalem

MUSLM COUNCIL OF WALES’ STATEMENT ON VIOLENCE IN JERUSALEM

On the evening of May 7th Israeli forces stormed Masjid al-Aqsa in Palestine, injuring hundreds in attendance at the mosque as well as protestors. The protests follow evictions of Palestinians by Israelis in the Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan neighbourhoods of East Jerusalem.

The spokesperson for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Rupert Coleville has issued a clear condemnation on behalf of the UN and stated that Israeli actions “may amount to war crimes”.

The Muslim Council of Wales condemns the violence against worshippers last night at one of Islam and Judaism’s holiest sites. We call on the Welsh Government and UK Government to use every means and channel available to them to preserve the rights, dignity, and life of Palestinians, and we ask all in Wales concerned about justice to raise their voice on this issue.
